Co-Dydramol is part of the compound analgesic group of medicines which means that it contains a number of active ingredients that provide effective treatment by working together to relieve painful symptoms.
Paracetamol and Dihydrocodeine work together in different way to provide effective pain relief. When our body feels pain, the area being affected will pass what is called a chemical message to our brain so that our brain is able to register the pain. Paracetamol works by slowing down/blocking these messages from reaching the brain so that our body is unable to register the pain and in turn our body is unable to feel that we are actually in discomfort.
Dihydrocodeine is a semi synthetic opioid analgesic and is a very strong painkiller that is commonly used to treat a number of aches and pains. As dihydrocodeine falls into the opiod group of medicines, it can prove highly addictive which is why it should be taken with great care and under the supervision of a doctor or pharmacist. Dihydrocodeine is twice as strong as Codeine and is also available on its own or compounded with paracetamol (Co-Dydramol). This ingredient is very similar to paracetamol in the way that it blocks pain signals travelling to the nerves and the brain.
