What is CBD Oil?

CBD is a cannabidiol. It has recently been recognised for its medicinal benefits for pain relief, anxiety, relaxation and sleeping. The natural substance of CBD is extracted from hemp plants.

As CBD is extracted from Hemp plants rather than marijuana, it contains no THC. This means that is promotes wellbeing without any psychoactive or intoxicating effects. Therefore, as there is no THC present, you do not experience a ‘high’ whilst taking any CBD products.

One of the reasons it has gained so much popularity recently, is become of its fast working results. In fact, many report they feel the benefits of CBD very quickly after using it. CBD is legal in the UK for medicinal purposes. Strict guidelines are set in place to ensure CBD products have no more than 0.2% THC present to ensure it is not used as a psychoactive product.

How does CBD work?

The cannabidiols found in CBD interact with receptors throughout our body. Known as the ‘endocannabinoid system,’ the receptors are found primarily in the part of the brain responsible for mental and physiological processes. These processes are in charge of memory, reasoning, emotions and motor coordination skills.

There are also CBD receptors found in the immune and central nervous system. These metabolic pathways signal to each other to maintain an ideal balance of elements in the body.

An example of CBD being used to positively interact with our receptors can be seen by how it helps us deal with stress. When we are stressed, our body produces a hormone called cortisol. This hormone can affect many different areas of the body. When it is being released in normal amounts, it helps to balance our sugar levels, reduce inflammation and help the memory. Cortisol also controls blood pressure.

When stressed, our body produces more cortisol than normal which creates the familiar ‘fight or flight’ sensation. When CBD is taken, it helps to both relieve our level of stress and provide a better perception of a situation. Meaning, it helps us to look at a stressful situation with a clearer head and make a better decision.

CBD for pain treatment

CBD has actually been used for pain relief in even ancient medicine. The natural substance is thought to ease inflammation whilst also interacting with how our mind perceives pain levels. Topical CBD application is thought to be stronger than tablets to tackle pain.

Commonly, CBD is used to treat chronic pain management for:

  • Cancer
  • Back pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraines
  • IBS
  • Multiple sclerosis pain
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Osteoarthritis

Using CBD to manage chronic pain can help to boost general wellbeing. Our quality of life can be improved drastically once chronic pain is treated regularly and effectively. One reason people have recently turned to CBD to treat pain is to avoid some of the side effects associated with other pain relief. Patients may also begin taking CBD to tackle the concern of becoming dependent on other medication.

CBD Oil for Anxiety

CBD can not only help anxiety, but it can also relieve the symptoms associated with it. Although there are ranges of anxiety medication already available, some come with the risk of unpleasant side effects.

Part of CBD’s growing popularity is due to having little to no known side effects when used for anxiety. The natural substance has a direct impact on your CBD receptors, which are responsible for mood disorders. By directly affecting the receptor, CBD can help to monitor serotonin levels.

CBD capsules are recommended for those who suffer with anxiety. Usually, one to three capsules can be swallowed daily. By taking your CBD tablet routinely you will optimise results.

Is CBD Legal in the UK?

There has recently been a lot of press surrounding the topic of legalising cannabis for medicinal use. Many people mistakenly think that because CBD is a cannabinoid, it is also yet to be legalised.

However, cannabis plants contain over 100 different cannabinoids. One of the most well known of these is THC. THC is indeed still illegal in the UK. It creates psychoactive effects, causing people using it to get ‘high.’

However, CBD does not have this effect on users. It contains no hallucinogenic properties or psychoactive effects. That is why CBD is not illegal. In fact, the wealth of benefits of CBD have recently been discovered by scientists. The latest discovery includes the revelation that our bodies contain CBD receptors.

By directly interacting with CBD receptors across our body, the natural substance can help alleviate pain, anxiety and stress

Is CBD Oil Addictive?

Unlike the better known cannabidiol THC, CBD is not addictive. It is non-addictive as CBD does not produce any intoxicating effects. This means it does not change your state of mind when you use it. However, CBD is still able to interact with receptors in the body to create a range of medicinal benefits.

CBD Medicine UK

Due to recent research discovering the various medicinal benefits of CBD, its sales have soared. Its popularity has meant scientists have focused on creating a range of different CBD treatments.

You can buy CBD capsules, Vape liquid, oil and gummies:

CBD Capsules – gel capsules containing CBD in an oil. They’re easy to consume and normally available in strengths of 25mg or 50mg in a 30 count bottle.

CBD Vape Liquid – CBD suspended in e liquid. These can be smoked through e cigarettes. As the use of e-cigarettes is rising so quickly, this is one of the most popular forms of CBD. There is also some evidence that CBD vape liquid can actually help people quit smoking. Studies have shown that smokers using CBD liquid not only smoke less cigarettes, but also have reduced nicotine cravings. As the CBD is inhaled, it is one of the fastest methods of absorbing its benefits.

CBD Oil: Generally used to rub onto areas of pain or inflammation. Many CBD oils will have an olive oil base which helps it be topically applied. You can find CBD oil in a range of scents, including natural, peppermint and citrus aromas.

CBD Gummies: Normally these are taken by those suffering with anxiety, stress and pain. As with all CBD products, gummies can be used on a long term basis without any risk of addiction and low risk of any side effects.
