Lansoprazole 15 mg orodispersible tablets belong to a group of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors. It is a prescription-only medicine that is used to treat the symptoms of acid reflux disease and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid and works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach.

Also available as Lansoprazole 15mg-30mg gastro-resistant capsules for acid reflux (GERD).

What is the difference between orodispersible tablets and regular tablets?

Orodispersible tablets are rapidly dissolving tablets. They are designed to dissolve in the mouth and are primarily used by individuals that may have difficulty swallowing regular tablets or capsules.

What are Lansoprazole orodispersible tablets used to treat?

Lansoprazole 15mg/30mg orodispersible tablets are used to treat adults who suffer from acid reflux disease.

Stomach acid is important for breaking down food for it to be digested properly. The oesophagus is normally protected from stomach acid by the oesophageal sphincter, which provides a one-way barrier so food can enter the stomach but acid cannot leave. Sometimes this sphincter can allow a certain amount of acid to pass through the barrier into the oesophagus, creating acid reflux.

A common side effect of acid reflux is heartburn, which causes a burning feeling in the chest.

How do Lansoprazole Orodispersible capsules work?

Lansoprazole 15/30mg orodispersible tablets are a type of medicine called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). They provide effective relief from the likes of acid reflux, stomach ulcers and heartburn by inhibiting the production of stomach acid, thus reducing the amount of acid that is produced.

Your doctor may prescribe Lansoprazole 15mg orodispersible tablets for any of the following conditions:

    • Heartburn and acid reflux
    • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
    • Inflammation of the oesophagus
    • Treatment for duodenal and stomach ulcer
    • Treatment or prevention of duodenal and stomach ulcer for people who are taking NSAIDs such as Naproxen 250mg-500mg tablets for a long time

Place a tablet on your tongue and gently suck it. The tablet will quickly dissolve in your mouth; it will release pellets that you should swallow without chewing. Alternatively, you can swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water.

If you have trouble swallowing tablets, your doctor may advise you to take this medicine using an oral syringe.

Ideally, you should take these tablets at least 30 minutes before you eat.

For heartburn and acid reflux, the usual dose is one tablet every day for four weeks. Speak to your doctor if you still have symptoms after this time.

If you are taking these tablets every day, try to take them at the same time each day.

What if I forget to take it?

If you accidentally miss a dose of Lansoprazole, just take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose.

If it is nearly time for the next dose, just skip the dose you missed and continue taking the tablets as normal. Never take a double dose of Lansoprazole 15mg orodispersible tablets to try and make up for missing a previous dose.
