What is Condyline?
Condyline is a topical cutaneous solution which contains the plant extract podophyllotoxin as its active ingredient.
Condyline solution is primarily used in the treatment of genital warts.
You can buy Condyline 0.5 solution from UK registered pharmacies like Medicine Direct when you have a prescription from one of our certified doctors. Your order will arrive in discreet packaging and if you order before 2pm, we can offer you next day delivery on your medicine.
What is Condyline used to treat?
Most people who are given a prescription to use Condyline are done so to treat genital warts.
This solution contains plant extract podophyllotoxin, which enters the nuclei of the infected cells and acts on the mechanism that makes genital wart cells divide; this means that genital warts are unable to grow or spread to anywhere else, which promotes healthy skin.
Condyline is effective in the treatment of genital warts when used at an early stage, before the infection has had a chance to spread over a larger area. Condyline is most effective when used on smaller warts and can help to suppress the signs and symptoms caused by genital warts.
Who can use Condyline?
Condyline solution is an effective treatment for genital warts, providing fast-acting treatment, but it is not suitable for everyone to use.
Always ensure you read the patient information leaflet, which will come with your medication, before you start to apply it.
You should not use Condyline if any of the following apply to you:
You should only ever buy Condyline from a pharmacy that is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, such as Medicine Direct.
When you order with us, one of our certified doctors will conduct an online consultation with you and assess whether or not this medication is the most suitable to treat your individual condition. If they deem it appropriate, they will give you a prescription to purchase Condyline from our online pharmacy.
If you order before 2pm, we can offer next day delivery on your order.
- You are currently using or have recently used any other medicines which contain podophyllotoxin
- You have recently had surgery and still have any open wounds near the affected area
- You are allergic to podophyllotoxin or any other ingredients contained in this solution (please refer to the Ingredients tab on this page)
This medicine should only be used by adults, it is not suitable for children.
If you have any concerns as to whether this medicine is suitable for you, do not hesitate to speak to your doctor.
Further information can be found under the Warnings and Drug Interactions tab on this page.
Possible Side Effects
Like all medicines, Condyline does come with a certain risk of side effects, although not everyone will be affected by them.
- You should contact your doctor immediately if:
- You have swelling or a build-up of fluid in your genital area
- You have a severe skin rash or redness of the skin
- You have severe burning, itching or irritation of skin in the area you applied the treatment
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have inflammation of the glands or foreskin, or irritation of the vagina
This list may not be exhaustive. Always read the patient information leaflet, which will come with your medicine, for a comprehensive list of potential adverse reactions associated with Condyline.
Our pharmacist and prescribers follow NICE prescribing guidelines when prescribing Condyline.
Your doctor will most likely prescribe you Condyline to use for three days. If your genital warts do not go away, they may advise you to repeat the same routine a week later. This can be done for up to five weeks if necessary.
If you have any questions about how to use Condyline, you should speak to your doctor for further instructions and advice. The patient information leaflet will explain in detail how to apply this treatment.
Condyline should only be applied externally. Do not apply the solution to any soft mucous membrane tissue, such as the vagina or anus.
Avoid contact with the eyes, lips and nostrils.
Do not stop using the solution until the course of treatment is complete, even if your warts do clear. Completing the treatment will reduce the risk of your suffering from infection in the future.
How to apply the solution
To effectively treat genital warts with this treatment, you should use Condyline twice a day, leaving a 12 hour gap between applications.
Wash the affected area with soap and make sure it is dry before you apply Condyline.
Fill the applicator with the Condyline solution and apply it gently to a cluster of genital warts. You should then leave this to dry; if you have warts in a number of areas, repeat the process once the first application has dried.
Do not exceed 50 drops of the solution in one application.
Wash your hands thoroughly once you have applied Condyline.
Applying it in the first week
- Dip the end of the plastic stick with the hole in it into the solution. Fill the hole with Condyline.
- Do not apply the solution to healthy skin, only apply it to the warts. If it goes anywhere else, wash this area well with soap and water.
- Apply the solution directly to the wart and continue to do so until all of them have been covered, without using more than 50 dips.
- Let the liquid dry by itself and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Apply two more treatments as described in Day 1's method. Leave 12 hours between applications.
- Apply two more treatments as described in Day 1's method. Leave 12 hours between applications.
This concludes your treatment for the first week, making for a total of six treatments. Your doctor may instruct you to visit them after the first week's course of treatment is complete.
If this amount did not prove to be sufficient, repeat the same dose again for a further three consecutive days the following week.
If required, you can continue this process for a maximum of five weeks.
Do not use this medication for any longer than five weeks. If your symptoms are still present after five weeks, you should go back to see your doctor, who may prescribe a different treatment or refer you to a specialist.
What if I miss an application?
If you miss a scheduled application time, apply Condyline as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed treatment and continue to apply the solution as usual.
Do not double up a dose of any medication to try and make up for a missed dose. This will not work and can increase your chances of developing unwanted side effects as a result.
To ensure you do not forget to apply this treatment, it is best if you apply it at the same times every day to get into a routine of doing it.

Condyline Warnings and drug interactions
Like all medicines, Condyline may interact with other medications.
Before taking any new prescription medicine, it is very important that you always inform your doctor of any drugs or treatments you are already using. This includes both prescription and non-prescription medication, herbal remedies, vitamins and supplements.
Any of these may contain ingredients that hinder the effectiveness of Condyline.
Please note that Condyline cannot completely cure HPV, although your body will tend to get rid of the infection on its own, over time. This medicine promotes healthy skin to grow after weakening the nucleus of the warts. Certain types of HPV may lead to cancer, although this strain is different to that which causes genital warts.
Even while you use Condyline, it should be noted that warts can still be transmitted. For this reason, it is important that you take extra precautions when having sexual intercourse. This includes using contraception like condoms and femidoms (female condoms) and thoroughly washing any shared sex toys in between uses.
If you have any concerns or questions about any aspect of this treatment, please do not hesitate to discuss them with your doctor or pharmacist before you start to use it.
Do not stop using this medicine until you have completed the course of treatment outlined by your doctor. Similarly, do not keep using it for longer than your doctor has instructed you to.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Condyline is not generally prescribed to women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are currently pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are trying to get pregnant, you should inform your doctor before they prescribe you this treatment.
The same applies for if you are breastfeeding. There may be a more suitable treatment for you to use.
We recommend BUMPS for additional information.
