What is Buscopan IBS Relief used to treat?

Buscopan IBS Relief is used to treat the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It works to relieve the abdominal pain that is caused by stomach cramps in people who suffer from this condition.

Irritable bowel syndrome, often just referred to as IBS, is a condition where the muscles within your bowel become very sensitive to things like:

  • Stimulants, such as coffee
  • Stress
  • Eating and drinking certain foods
  • Your eating and drinking habits
  • Hormonal factors

These things can trigger abdominal pain caused by cramps or spasms. Other symptoms include feeling bloated or excessive wind. Constipation or diarrhoea are other conditions associated with it in some cases.

Buscopan IBS Relief helps to relieve the physical pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Buscopan IBS Relief FAQ's

How does Buscopan IBS Relief work?

Buscopan IBS Relief works by relaxing the muscles in your stomach, which helps to relieve the abdominal pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It contains hyoscine butylbromide, which can target the pain and help the muscles around the stomach and intestinal walls to relax, relieving the pain. You should swallow the tablet whole with water.

Can I take it for a long time?

You should not take this medication for longer than 2 weeks. If your symptoms change, get worse or do not improve in this time, you should go back to your doctor for advice. Your doctor may wish to rule out any other illnesses that may be the cause of your symptoms. You can use Buscopan for longer, but only if this is recommended by your doctor. Do not keep taking the medication if your symptoms do not improve after 2 weeks if your doctor has not advised you to do so.

What is irritable bowel syndrome?

Irritable bowel syndrome, often just referred to as IBS, is a condition where the muscles in your bowel become very sensitive to certain things. These include:

  • Stimulants, such as coffee

  • Hormonal factors

As a result, you can suffer from stomach cramps and pains in your abdomen, which can be very debilitating. Diarrhoea, constipation, bloating and excessive wind are also symptoms you might experience when you suffer from IBS.

Does Buscopan IBS Relief stop diarrhoea?

This medicine is for relieving IBS, it will not stop diarrhoea.

When will I start to feel better?

What is the difference between Buscopan IBS Relief and Buscopan Cramps?

In most ways, Buscopan Cramps and Buscopan IBS Relief are identical. Both tablets contain the same active ingredient, hyoscine butylbromide, in the same 10mg strength dose. However, they are marketed differently. Buscopan Cramps is targeted at stomach cramps, but can also be used to relieve period pain and cramping that people get when they have IBS. It is only available from pharmacies and can be taken by adults and children who are over 6 years old. Buscopan IBS Relief, on the other hand, is targeted at IBS, when it has been diagnosed by a doctor. It is suitable for adults and children who are 12 years of age and above.
