About Finacea 15% (Azelaic Acid) Gel 30g
  1. What is Finacea gel?

Finacea 15% azelaic acid gel is a topical treatment for rosacea and milder forms of acne. It contains the active ingredient azelaic acid, which works to treat acne and rosacea in different ways.

Azelaic acid is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid that can help with a number of symptoms caused by acne and rosacea.

You need a prescription to buy Finacea 15% gel.

What is Finacea gel used to treat?

Finacea is specifically intended to treat facial rosacea and acne, and can help to reduce the following symptoms:

    • Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead
    • Visible blood vessels near the surface of the skin
    • Inflammation of the skin
    • Swelling
    • Burning
    • Large pores
    • Rough dry skin
    • Appearance of spots and pimples

Finacea gel may also help to reduce the wrinkles that are caused by rosacea, although this benefit has not been proven.

Why is Finacea gel a recommended treatment?

Finacea (azelaic acid) has been shown to improve the appearance of facial erythema of rosacea in 56% of patients in just 15 weeks compared to just 42% for other widely prescribed rosacea treatments such as Metronidazole (Rozex 0.75% Gel).

Finacea15% gel can benefit the skin in several ways and can help to treat the following:

    • Hyperpigmentation
    • Wrinkles
    • Redness of the skin
    • Reducing the formation of spots and blackheads
    • Lightening the pigmentation that is caused by the skin condition melasma
    • Fading light surface acne scars

How does Finacea gel work for acne?

For acne, it works by killing the bacteria that has infected the pores of the skin by decreasing the amount of keratin that is produced. Keratin is a natural substance that is produced by the cells of the skin, too much of this can lead to acne.

Finacea Gel (azelaic acid) helps treat acne by:

    • Killing the bacteria that infect pores on the skin
    • Reduces keratin production
    • Reduces pimples, redness and swelling

How does Finacea work for rosacea?

For rosacea, azelaic acid decreases the redness and swelling of the skin, thus helping to visibly reduce the appearance and symptoms of Rosacea.

Finacea Gel (azelaic acid) helps treat rosacea by:

    • Reducing redness and swelling
    • Improving the appearance of bumps, lesions and swelling caused by rosacea

When you use Finacea correctly, it may take up to 4 weeks or longer before you start to see an improvement in your symptoms.

Can you buy Finacea gel over the counter?

You can buy lower doses of azelaic acid over the counter in a number of beauty and skincare products. Azelaic acid 15% gel (Finacea) to treat rosacea and acne is a prescription-only medicine that is not available to be purchased over the counter.

Can you buy Finacea gel online in the UK?

You can buy Finacea gel online in the UK from Medicine Direct. Because of its benefits to the skin, azelaic acid is present in many beauty and skin treatments. However,  the dosage of azelaic acid in those products may be lower.
