What is Soolantra (Ivermectin) Cream?

Soolantra is a cream that contains the active ingredient Ivermectin. Ivermectin is a medicine that belongs to the Avermectin family of drugs, it is typically prescribed to treat parasite infections.

Ivermectin has been used since 1981 and is featured on the World Health Organisation's List of Essential Medicines.

Soolantra cream is used to reduce the pimples and spots that are associated with rosacea. Although there is no direct cure for Rosacea, Soolantra cream usually improves symptoms.

Soolantra is only available on prescription and should not be used by anyone who is under the age of 18.

What is Soolantra (Ivermectin) used to treat?

When applied topically as a cream, Ivermectin is used to treat rosacea and is effective at reducing some of the most common symptoms associated with Rosacea such as redness, swelling and pimples. Ivermectin, as an active ingredient can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, however when it is used in a topical cream form, it is widely used for rosacea.

How does Soolantra (Ivermectin) treat rosacea?

Soolantra is an effective cream for significantly reducing the spots and pimples that come with a skin condition called rosacea. The active ingredient, ivermectin, is an antiparasitic agent and works to kill parasites like demodex mites, which are associated with skin inflammation and rosacea symptoms.

Although the exact mechanism of action of Ivermectin when treating Rosacea is not known, it is believed that its anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic properties help to relieve the physical symptoms caused by rosacea.

The same study also found that Ivermectin was significantly more effective when compared to other topical treatments for rosacea such as Metronidazole cream. Ivermectin was found to be more effective in improving the quality of life and reducing inflammatory skin lesions in patients.

It should be consistently applied each day, although you only need to use a pea-sized amount.

How long does Soolantra (Ivermectin) cream take to work?

Soolantra should be applied once daily for up to 4 months (16 weeks), the treatment should be discontinued if there has been no improvement after 3 months (12 weeks). The study also reported that 69% of people rated their improvement of symptoms as excellent or good.
