About Fybogel Mebeverine (Orange Flavour)
  1. What is Fybogel Mebeverine?

Fybogel Mebeverine contains ispaghula husk, a natural plant material that is very high in fibre.

The medicine comes as an orange-flavoured powder sachet, which should be mixed with water and drank.

Mebeverine is an anti-spasmodic medicine that helps to relax the stomach muscles. This makes it an effective treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), helping to encourage bowel movements and relieve discomfort.

You can buy Fybogel Mebeverine sachets over the counter.

What is Fybogel Mebeverine used to treat?

Fybogel Mebeverine is used to treat constipation and irritable bowel syndrome.

This medicine contains two different active ingredients, a laxative and an antispasmodic, which means that it can both treat stomach pain and also help you to go to the toilet.

Fybogel Mebeverine is dissolved in water for a pleasant-tasting orange drink, which is also sugar and gluten-free.

Why are Fybogel Mebeverine sachets recommended for IBS?

Mebeverine has been clinically tested and shown to be a safe and effective medicine for IBS.

    How does Fybogel Mebeverine work?

This medicine works by increasing the bulk of the contents of your gut passing through the digestive system. This helps to promote normal bowel movements and relieves spasms and cramps that occur in your gut.

It contains two active ingredients, ispaghula husk and mebeverine. Ispaghula husk is a type of fibre known as a bulk-forming laxative, which helps to relieve constipation and maintain regular bowel movements. When mixed with water, it swells in the gut and increases the volume of your bowel movements without being absorbed into the body. The muscles of the bowel wall can then push the contents along, helping you to go to the toilet.

Mebeverine is an antispasmodic that relaxes the muscles in and around the intestinal wall, which relieves the abdominal pain that comes with spasms caused by irritable bowel syndrome.

    Fybogel Mebeverine alternatives

Understanding what triggers your IBS symptoms should be the first-line treatment option, trying to pinpoint if certain foods cause your symptoms can help you to make lifestyle adjustments and eliminate those symptoms-causing foods from your diet.

A gut health test can also help to identify your symptoms by measuring the bacteria within your gut microbiome. Certain bad bacteria within your gut can cause symptoms to arise, a gut microbiome test will identify if those bad bacteria types are present and will create a personalised plan to reduce them and improve the quantity of good bacteria.

Various alternatives to Fybogel Mebeverine can be ordered from Medicine Direct. The full list of IBS treatments can be found on the Irritable Bowel Syndrome product page.

Peppermint oil capsules such as Apercap and Colpermin are available to order without needing a prescription. These capsules contain peppermint oil, which works to relax the muscles in the gut, relieving discomfort effectively. They can also regulate bowel movements, relieving bloating.
