How should Maxalt be taken?

You should take the Maxalt melt as soon as you begin to feel the symptoms of a migraine. The wafer melt is to be kept inside inside its blister pack until you are about to take it. Ensure that your hands are dry before taking it out and placing it in your mouth. It is not to be swallowed whole. Instead, wait for the wafer to dissolve fully in your mouth. You can drink water to help the dissolving process.

It is important that you follow the instructions your doctor gives you in regards to the strength of dose and when to take it. Your doctor may want to give you the initial dose whilst at the clinic to review how you respond to the medicine and be on hand if any serious side effects occur. Below is a general guide on how to take Maxalt to treat a migraine:

  • Migraine

Take the medicine as soon as you feel the beginning of a migraine. If the headache is not completely eradicated, or comes back, from the first dose, you can take another wafer 2 hours after the first one was consumed. You can not take more than 30mg of Maxalt (rizatriptan) in the space of 24 hours. If, after 3 doses of the medicine, your symptoms do not improve contact your doctor.
