About Balneum Cream 500g
  1. What is Balneum Cream?

Balneum Cream is an emollient treatment for various dry skin conditions, including eczema and dermatitis. The cream should be applied to the affected areas twice a day and works to relieve itching and irritation. It also hydrates the skin and build up the skin’s barrier function.

You can buy Balneum Cream without a prescription and it is suitable for both adults and children.

What is Balneum Cream used to treat?

Balneum Cream can be used by adults and children to treat a range of dry skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis.

Why is Balneum Cream recommended for eczema?

Balneum Cream has been tested and it has been found that, even after short-term use, a person's skin can stay hydrated for up to four times longer compared to when using other creams.

This cream has no fragrance, artificial colours or preservatives, which means that it is perfectly suitable for people who suffer from sensitive or delicate skin.

    How does Balneum Cream work?

Balneum Cream contains urea as its main active ingredient, which works to treat problems like eczema in three ways:

    • It hydrates the skin
    • It removes dead skin cells
    • It relieves itching

Balneum also contains ceramide, which works by building up the skin’s barrier function. This means it helps to lock moisture into the skin and prevent dryness and irritation from occurring.

Balneum Cream is particularly effective at keeping the skin hydrated when you apply it after having a bath or shower; this helps to retain more moisture.

    Who can use Balneum Cream?

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to urea, ceramide or any of the other ingredients contained within it (please read the patient information leaflet for a full list of ingredients).

Do not use Balneum Cream without speaking to your doctor if:

    • You have an allergy to peanuts or soya
    • You have inflamed, infected, damaged, broken or weeping skin

This list may not be exhaustive. Refer to the patient information leaflet for comprehensive details on precautions.

Can you buy Balneum Cream over the counter?

Balneum Cream can be bought over the counter without needing a prescription. It may be prescribed by a doctor, too.

Can you buy Balneum Cream online in the UK?

Yes, you can buy Balneum Cream online from Medicine Direct. All you need to do is complete a simple and confidential online consultation with an online prescriber. They will review the answers you provide in a confidential questionnaire to make sure Balneum is safe for you to use.

You can then order your medication from our UK-based pharmacy. Place your order by 2pm and we can also offer you next day delivery.

For your own safety, only order medicine from regulated pharmacies, like Medicine Direct. This will ensure you do not buy medicine that is unsafe or unapproved for sale in the UK.

    Alternatives to Balneum Cream

While skin conditions like eczema can be difficult to keep on top of, there is a wide range of treatments available to keep them under control.

Aside from Balneum Cream, Balneum Plus cream is also available from Medicine Direct. This medication is very similar, but it instead contains urea and lauromacrogols and works to soothe and soften the skin by replacing essential oils. This helps to alleviate discomfort and itching caused by dry skin and also aids in retaining skin moisture.

Balneum Plus may be more suited if you find that you are suffering from particularly itchy or irritated skin. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist about which medicine you may find more effective.

Research has shown than Balneum Plus Cream will hydrate the skin for up to 24 hours, when used as instructed.

Topical treatments such as Fucibet and Clobetasone can be bought after you have filled out a confidential online consultation questionnaire for one of our prescribers to review. These medicines will work quickly to relieve itching and inflammation of the skin.
