What is Spedra?

Spedra (Avanafil) is a widely prescribed medication to treat individuals suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED). It is part of a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.

As a treatment for erectile dysfunction, Spedra tablets work by helping men maintain a firmer, harder erection for longer during sexual intercourse.

It is available to be purchased online for delivery, in supermarkets and in any registered pharmacy.

It is available in three doses: 50mg, 100mg and 200mg tablets. 100mg is the average dose for men who find it difficult to achieve an erection, some people may require a higher or lower dose, both of which can be prescribed by a doctor.

How does Spedra work?

The Spedra tablet is an orally administered medicine which is used to treat erectile dysfunction. It helps those suffering with ED by relaxing and widening the blood vessels in particular areas of the body, such as the penis. By increasing the ease of blood flow, Spedra tablets make it possible for men to have and maintain an erection.

It has shown to be effective in over 1,000 men during its clinical trials. Within 15-30 minutes, the effects of Spedra will begin to work, allowing you to be confident in your sexual performance.

Spedra contains the active ingredient avanafil, a PDE5 inhibitor, which is approved for ED by the FDA, and can be purchased online at Medicine Direct.

How should Spedra be taken?

You are able to take Spedra once a day, 30 minutes before you expect to have sexual intercourse. You will have to stimulate an erection after this time, and then the medicine will help you achieve and maintain it.

You can take it before or after eating, but please note that food in your stomach can delay the effects of the medicine.

You should not eat grapefruit products or drink any grapefruit juice while taking this drug. This is because it can make you more likely to experience side effects.

Drinking alcohol when taking Spedra tablets can slow down the effects of the drug and impact your ability to gain an erection.

Who can use Spedra?

This is an erectile dysfunction treatment for men who are over the age of 18. Spedra must not be taken by women or children. If any of the below apply to you, you should not take Spedra:

  • Heart problems
  • Liver or kidney problems
  • Recently suffered a heart attack of stroke
  • An allergy to avanafil or any other ingredients used in Spedra
  • Low or high blood pressure not controlled by medicine
  • Eye problems
  • Are taking medicines for HIV or AIDS
  • Are taking nitrate medicines for chest pain

An online consultation will take place before you are prescribed Spedra, during which a pharmacist or doctor will ask you questions about your lifestyle and general health. This will determine whether these tablets are suitable for you.

Coexisting medical conditions

Spedra should not be taken if you already have certain medical conditions. The full list of people who should not take Spedra can be found on the main product page.

Similarly, you should consult your doctor if you are taking any other medications before you start to use Spedra.

Interacting medications

Spedra tablets should not be combined with several other drugs. A full list of other medications you should not take when using this medicine can be found under the Warnings and Drug Interactions tab.

Similarly, if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you should also discuss these with your doctor before you take this medication.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Spedra comes with the risk of adverse effects. Although it is rare to experience side effects when taking the medicine, please make yourself aware of the following list. If you do believe you are experiencing negative side effects, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist.

If the adverse effect is more severe, seek immediate medical care.

Common Side Effects:

  • Nasal congestion
  • Feeling flush or an increase in temperature/sweating
  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea

For serious adverse effects, please refer to the Side Effects tab on this page. If you experience any of the serious adverse effects, you should call 111 or 999 immediately.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive. For a more extensive list, please see the leaflet inside the medication box and familiarise yourself with all the possible adverse effects before you use Spedra.

Spedra Dosage

At Medicine Direct, we sell the three most popular strengths of Spedra: 50mg, 100mg and 200mg. All of them come in the form of tablets and the packages contain between 4 tablets and 32 tablets, depending on the dose.

Your doctor will try and maintain your dose to be effective in as low a strength dosage as possible. The average starting dose for Spedra is 100mg, which is sufficient for most men. However, this dosage can be increased if 100mg is not effective. This should be discussed with your doctor before the dose is altered.

Spedra 50mg

This is the weakest dosage of Spedra we sell. This will be used if the patient is sensitive to a higher dose, or has used a medium strength dose already and experienced some unwanted side effects. It may also be used if the median strength of 100mg has proved to have too strong an influence.

Spedra 100mg

100mg is the most popular strength of Spedra used. It should be taken when needed and no more than once a day. You should not increase your dose of the medicine if this strength works.

Spedra 200mg

If a patient has tolerated the 100mg dose of Spedra well but not seen results or an improvement, then they will be given Spedra 200mg. It is not meant for those who are using Spedra for the first time.

Just because it is double the strength of the 100mg, this does not mean that it gives double the results. It works no faster nor more potently than the weaker forms of the medicine. It is just given to those who need a stronger dose, to feel the same effect men who take 100mg feel.

Spedra can be taken closer to the time you have sexual intercourse, while Viagra needs to be taken one hour before. Spedra can also be effective for as long as five hours, which is a similar length of time to Viagra.

Spedra FAQ's

How effective is Spedra?

Spedra reviews are generally glowing and research has shown that this medicine is able to treat erectile dysfunction in around 60% of men. This is less than the success rate of Viagra, but Spedra tablets work much faster, normally taking effect in between 15 and 30 minutes.

Will Spedra affect my ability to drive or operate machinery?

Common adverse reactions to Spedra are feeling dizzy and nausea. If you experience these feelings, you should not use tools or machines, nor should you drive or cycle. Always read the information leaflet before taking any medication.

How long does Spedra last after taking it?

Spedra can remain in your blood for at least 6 hours after taking it. However, it remains active for up to 5 hours.

How can I buy Spedra online in the UK?

If you are a valid UK citizen and have a prescription from a doctor, you will be able to purchase Spedra online in the UK with us at Medicine Direct. If you do not yet have a prescription for Spedra, you can fill in one of our health questionnaires which will be reviewed by one of our doctors. After assessing your answers, the doctor will then prescribe you the medicine if they deem it appropriate to do so.

What are the key benefits of Spedra?

These tablets work incredibly quickly and come in a wide variety of dosages to treat a large range of men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. By helping the blood vessels in the penis to relax, Spedra tablets produce long lasting results and have been proven to help men get an erection by improving the blood flow to the penis.

Is Spedra different to other erectile dysfunction drugs?

Like other erectile dysfunction treatments, Spedra tablets improve blood flow to the penis by relaxing the blood vessels, helping men to maintain an erection. Compared to Viagra (Sildenafil), Spedra tablets work much faster, taking effect in around 30 minutes; although in some men it may even begin to work 15 minutes.

Can you drink alcohol while taking Spedra?

You can drink alcohol whilst taking Spedra, but you should not try to do so before taking your initial tablet. This is because Spedra can sometimes make people feel dizzy. Once you have discerned how the medicine effects you it may be safe to drink in moderation.

Please note, however, that drinking alcohol at the same time as taking Spedra may result in a lower your blood pressure and increase the rate of your heart beat. Drinking alcohol in its own right is also known to contribute to difficulties in getting an erection. So, in general, patients are advised to avoid drinking.

How long does Spedra take to start working?

You will be able to notice the effects of Spedra within 30 minutes of taking it. Between 30-45 minutes after taking the medicine is the time when it is meant to have reached maximum concentration in your blood. If you have eaten before using the drug, this may slow down the effect as it will have to wait longer to be digested into the blood stream.

Can I take Spedra even if I have a heart condition?

If you have a known heart condition you need to discuss this with your doctor before beginning to take any erectile dysfunction medicine. Depending on what medicine you may be taking to treat your heart condition, Spedra may not be appropriate for you to use.

Is erectile dysfunction a sign of anything else not being right?

Generally, men with erectile dysfunction are in good health. However, it can be an indicator that they have circulatory problems. Sometimes, doctors may check for diabetes, high cholesterol or blood pressure and a range of other conditions to check that you are healthy.

Can I increase the dosage if it doesn't work?

The recommended dose is 100mg, taken about half an hour before sexual activity. Spedra 200mg is the maximum dose, which can be taken if 50mg/100mg is not effective. The dosage can also be decreased to 50mg if required. However, you should always speak to your doctor before altering the dose you take.
