About Evorel Conti Patch
  1. What are Evorel Conti patches?

Evorel Conti patches are a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that are used by women to relieve the symptoms of menopause. They can also be used to prevent osteoporosis.

You must have a prescription to buy Evorel Conti patches.

What is Evorel Conti used to treat?

Evorel Conti patches can be used as a treatment for menopause by women who have not had a period for at least 18 months.

They can also be used by postmenopausal women who are at risk of developing bone problems to prevent osteoporosis.

This medicine is a continuous combined HRT, meaning it contains a combination of both oestrogen and progestogen hormones, which are released at the same time.

The patches come in a ‘memory pack’, making it easier for you to remember when you need to change them.

Why is Evorel Conti recommended for menopause?

Many women going through menopause find Evorel Conti to be a convenient HRT medication to use. The majority of HRT medicines require taking a tablet once a day. In contrast, Evorel Conti is a patch that only needs to be changed twice a week.

Continuous HRT treatments such as this one have been shown to be safe and effective at treating the symptoms of menopause.

How do Evorel Conti patches work?

Evorel Conti contains a synthetic form of oestrogen called estradiol. These patches work by replacing the oestrogen that your ovaries would normally release. As a woman ages, her ovaries gradually produce less oestrogen, which triggers menopause symptoms.

These patches also contain norethisterone, which is a type of progestogen. If you still have a womb, taking oestrogen can increase the thickening of your womb lining. Therefore, taking a progestogen at the same time will help the womb lining to shed and avoid any potential health risks.

While the women who use Evorel Conti patches will no longer get regular periods, you may notice bleeding or spotting during the first few months of treatment.

    Who can use Evorel Conti?

Evorel Conti is not suitable for all women to use. It must not be used by children.

Evorel Conti is not suitable for you if:

    • You have excessive thickening of the womb lining
    • You have ever had or may have breast cancer
    • You are allergic to any of the ingredients contained in the patches
    • You have ever had or may have a type of cancer that was exacerbated by oestrogens, such as endometrial cancer
    • You have any unexplained vaginal bleeding
    • You have ever had any liver diseases
    • You have ever had a blood clot in a vein or a blood clot that reached your lungs
    • You have any blood problems that make a blood clot more likely
    • You have porphyria
    • You have ever had blocked arteries that caused angina, stroke or heart attack

These problems do not mean that Evorel Conti patches are definitely unsuitable for you, but your doctor must know if any of them affect you.

This list is not exhaustive. It is vital you read the patient information leaflet for full details on why this medicine may not be suitable for you.

Can you buy Evorel Conti over the counter?

No, Evorel Conti patches are classed as a prescription-only medicine (POM); therefore they are not available over the counter.

Can you buy Evorel Conti online in the UK?

Yes, Evorel Conti patches can be bought online from regulated pharmacies like Medicine Direct. 4. Warnings

Evorel Conti is not a contraception. If you are under the age of 50 or it has been less than one year since your last period, you might still need to use additional contraception to prevent getting pregnant. Consult your doctor if this is the case.

More women using HRT report the following health problems than women who are not using HRT:

    • Heart disease
    • Stroke
    • Breast cancer
    • Ovarian cancer
    • Memory loss in women over 65 years old
    • Endometrial hyperplasia or cancer
    • Blood clots in leg veins or lungs

It is important that you attend regular breast screenings and smear tests while taking HRT.

You should also check your breasts regularly for any irregularities, such as lumps, changes in your nipples or dimpling of the skin.

If you are due to have an operation, tell your doctor. You may need to stop using Evorel Conti patches around 4 to 6 weeks before the operation to avoid blood clots.

Evorel Conti may also affect test results. If you are due to have a blood or urine test, tell the doctor performing the test that you are using Evorel Conti.

    Drug interactions

If you are currently taking or have recently taken any other type of medication, it is very important that you tell your doctor. This includes non-prescription medication.

In particular, they should know if you are taking:

    • Medicines to treat HIV
    • Medicines to treat hepatitis C
    • Medicines containing the herbal remedy St John’s Wort
    • Medicines to treat tuberculosis
    • Medicines to treat epilepsy
