About Millinette Pill
  1. What is Millinette?

Millinette is an oral contraceptive pill that contains two active ingredients, gestodene and ethinylestradiol, which are synthetic female sex hormones.

Millinette is a monophasic combined pill; this means that each pill in the pack contains the same dose of gestodene and ethinylestradiol.

You must have a prescription to buy Millinette.

What is Millinette used to treat?

Millinette tablets work to prevent women from becoming pregnant. When taken correctly, they are more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.

If you start to take this pill during the first five days of your menstrual cycle, you will be protected against pregnancy immediately.

    How does Millinette work?

Millinette prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg. This contraceptive pill also thickens the fluid in the cervix, making it much harder for sperm to reach the uterus.

Additionally, Millinette stops the lining of the womb from thickening enough for any fertilised egg to be implanted in the womb. This will also make periods lighter than usual.

    Who can take Millinette?

Do not take Millinette without talking to your doctor if:

    • You have ever had a heart attack or a stroke
    • You have any unexplained vaginal bleeding
    • You have or have ever had blood clots
    • You have angina pectoris
    • You have an impaired liver function
    • You suffer from severe migraines
    • You have any blood clotting disorders
    • You have, have ever had, or have a family history of cancer of the cervix, breast, ovary or uterus
    • You have severe diabetes
    • You have high levels of fat in the blood
    • You are allergic to this or any other medicines
    • You have an eye disorder that is the result of circulatory problems
    • You have very high blood pressure
    • You suffer from any other illness not listed here

Read the patient information leaflet for a complete list of reasons why Millinette may not be suitable for you to take.

Can you buy Millinette over the counter?

No, Millinette is a prescription-only medicine (POM). To buy Millinette you must have a prescription from a doctor.

Can you buy Millinette online in the UK?

You can buy Millinette online from Medicine Direct if you have been prescribed it by a doctor. For one of our registered prescribers to issue you with a repeat prescription, you will need to complete our confidential online questionnaire; this will make sure Millinette is suitable for you.

If you order from our online pharmacy by 2pm, we can offer you next day delivery. Never buy any medication online unless it is from a fully registered UK pharmacy, like Medicine Direct.

    Millinette alternatives

Various alternative forms of contraception are available to use if Millinette is not a suitable medication for you to take.

    Alternative combined pills include:

Speak to your doctor if you wish to try a different form of contraceptive pill.

  2. Millinette Pill Dosage and Directions

Our pharmacists and prescribers follow NICE guidelines when prescribing Millinette Pills

Always take Millinette tablets exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist to properly prevent pregnancy. Read the patient information leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist for further instruction if you are still not sure.

    How to take Millinette

Start taking Millinette on the first day of your period.

Take one Millinette tablet each day. Take the tablet around the same time every day.

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.

    1. Take one tablet every day for 21 days.
    2. After you have taken all 21 tablets in the strip, you will have a 7-day break where you take no tablets. You will have a normal withdrawal bleed during this time.
    3. After this break of 7 days, start the next strip of tablets immediately.

What should I do if I miss the pill?

If you forget to take a pill, take it as soon as you remember. This may require you to take two pills on the same day.

If you only miss one day, you should still have contraceptive protection. However, if you have missed more than one day, you should use an extra method of contraception, such as a condom, for the next seven days.
