About Prochlorperazine 5mg Tablets
  1. What is Prochlorperazine?

Prochlorperazine is an anti-sickness medicine that is taken to prevent nausea and vomiting. It contains the active ingredient prochlorperazine maleate and can be taken to treat the likes of morning sickness and vertigo.

You need a prescription to buy Prochlorperazine tablets.

What are Prochlorperazine 5mg tablets used to treat?

Prochlorperazine 5mg tablets are an effective medicine for nausea and vomiting. They can also be used to treat migraines and dizziness as a result of ear problems. In some cases, Prochlorperazine may be prescribed to treat anxiety.

You can use Prochlorperazine 5mg tablets to treat nausea that comes with a variety of different conditions, including:

    • Morning sickness
    • Travel sickness
    • Migraines
    • Vertigo (dizziness)
    • Conditions that affect balance
    • Sickness that comes from cancer treatments, general anaesthetics or from taking other medicines

For more information on what prochlorperazine is used to treat, read our helpful medical guide.

Why is Prochlorperazine recommended for nausea?

In clinical trials, Prochlorperazine was shown to be a fast-acting and effective treatment for nausea and vomiting compared to similar medicines.

Prochlorperazine can be used by adults and children over 1 year of age and will normally start to work after around 30 minutes of being taken.

    How does Prochlorperazine work?

The active ingredient contained in Prochlorperazine 5mg tablets is prochlorperazine maleate, which belongs to a group of medicines known as phenothiazines.

Typically, Prochlorperazine 5mg tablets will start to work in around 30 to 60 minutes. They work by blocking the dopamine receptors in the section of the brain that causes nausea. This stops messages from being sent to the “vomiting centre” in the brain, relieving the feeling of nausea.

    Who can take Prochlorperazine tablets?

Prochlorperazine provides effective relief from nausea and vomiting, but it may not be suitable for everyone to use.

Do not take Prochlorperazine tablets if any of the following apply to you:

    • You are allergic to prochlorperazine maleate or any of the other ingredients contained in this medicine
    • You have any prostate gland problems
    • You have any liver problems
